Gunners in International Action

Today’s the day, England are playing their first game of the competition against Iran. Tierney and Ødegaard have both already played friendlies for Scotland and Norway respectively, but who else from our team has gone to the World Cup? We have ten representatives this year; Thomas Partey for Ghana, Martinelli and Jesus for Brazil, Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka, and Ben White for England, William Saliba for France, Granit Xhaka for Switzerland, Takehiro Tomiyasu for Japan, and Matt Turner for the USA. The first lot in action is the aforementioned England vs Iran game, with Turner hopefully in action for the USA tonight vs Wales. Saliba’s France will be playing tomorrow against Australia. On Wednesday Tomiyasu will be in contention to start vs the Netherlands, and on Thursday Xhaka, Partey, and the Gabi’s will be playing.

Chelsea 0 – 1 Arsenal – Match Report

Gabriel Magalhães header from a Bukayo Saka corner was what separated the two London clubs in a well-deserved win which saw Arsenal return to the top of the table. Going into the game, it was clear that this was a must win game, to prove we are truly title contenders as we faced another big six team. Zinchenko was the only change to the side that thrashed Nottingham Forest 5 – 0 only last Sunday, as he came back from injury to replace Tomiyasu, who was today named as part of the Japanese World C

Southampton 1 - 1 Arsenal - Match Report

Another disappointing performance, but this time we didn’t get away with it and we dropped two points to Southampton, closing the gap between us and Manchester City to a meagre two points. Arteta started the same 11 who protected their 1 - 0 victory over Leeds last Sunday, as we went in search of our tenth win in eleven games. Both teams started with a high intensity but it was Arsenal that dominated. Jesus, Xhaka, and Ødegaard all had chances very early on and it seemed that we would coast to victory. On the ten minute mark, White got the ball into the box for Xhaka, who was left in plenty of space and he put us ahead. The goal gave us some confidence and Southampton couldn’t get out of their own half. Eventually, Southampton managed to regain some control and put Ramsdale under a bit of pressure but nothing came of it. Martinelli and Jesus both had good chances just before the break but neither of them could find the back of the net.
